West Seattle Corridor Bridges Rehabilitation
Overview
As one of the City of Seattle’s most heavily used corridors with an average of over 100,000 cars, trucks and buses crossing every day, West Seattle Bridge and the lower swing bridge are an essential route within the city’s critical infrastructure. The appearance of new and existing structural cracks precipitated a decision by SDOT to close the structure for emergency repairs. Kraemer was hired under an emergency contract to stabilize the structure, which included installation of new post-tensioning cables and anchors, carbon-fiber wrapping and epoxy injection crack filling. This bridge was reopened in September 2022.
