MNDOT Smith Avenue High Bridge

Overview

Kraemer partnered with MNDOT and the designer on the removal and replacement of the Smith Avenue High Bridge deck over the Mississippi River between Saint Paul and Mendota Heights, MN. Work included steel repairs, roadway resurfacing, and improvements, replacing signals at five intersections, landscaping, drainage improvements, sidewalks, and pedestrian accessibility. The existing bridge was a post tensioned steel structure that required specific removal and replacement sequence to keep the structure table. Our unique de-tensioning system constructed a mock-up of the existing tendon and de-tensioning system in our yard to demonstrate safety in teh approach to de-tension the bridge, which was completed successfully.
