I-25 South Gap

Overview

Kraemer widened 18 miles of I-25 between Castle Rock and Monument, Colorado. The project focuses on providing safety and mobility improvements to the corridor. Kraemer’s approach managed a reconstruction contract concurrently with four major construction packages to expedite the overall delivery schedule, minimize impacts to I-25 traffic, and maximize construction around CDOT’s budget per fiscal year. This project was opened to traffic in November 2022.

We provided over $15M in innovative ideas that allowed CDOT to maximize the scope of work within the fixed limit of construction. For example, we suggested innovations like 10-foot-tall integral abutments for the wildlife crossing bridges, CIP median walls that combined the guardrail and wall into one operation, and bridge innovations that eliminated scour concerns at Plum Creek. These innovations provided savings that allowed CDOT to maximize the scope of work and incorporate additional project elements such as a truck climbing lane, chain-up station, and a new interchange at County Line Road.
